Preparation of antimony potassium tartrate
5 g of potassium hydrogen tartrate, 5 g of antimony trioxide and 30 ml of water are mixed and added to a small flask fitted with reflux condenser. The mixture is boiled for 15 minutes, then filtered, while hot, using a Buchner funnel and flask which have been preheated. The clear filtrate is poured into a beaker and allowed to cool to room temperature. Antimony potassium tartrate separates as colorless crystals, which are filtered and dried, yielding 5 g of final product. The antimony potassium tartrate can be purified by recrystallization from hot water.
