Preparation of aluminum carbide
A little amount of turpentine, 12 grams of dry charcoal and 45 grams aluminum powder are well mixed. The mixture is heated in muffle oven at 1000-1100° C. After the reaction is finished (around 20 min) the aluminum carbide is cooled to room temperature and washed with potassium hydroxide solution to removed any unreacted aluminum.
