Preparation of 1,1-dimethyl[2-D] isobutyl chloride
2 g (0.1 mol) of deuterium oxide are dropped during 48 h into a solution of 7.3 g (0.087 mole mole) (2,3-dimethyl- 2-butene in 22 g (0.28 mole) of acetyl chloride. When the addition is complete the solution is boiled under reflux for 2 hours and then poured on ice. The product is extracted with ether and dried over potassium carbonate. After removal of the ether, the product is distilled, whereby 1,1-dimethyl[2-D]isobutyl chloride, b.p. 109-110°/740mm, is obtained in 72% yield (7.5 g).
