Preparation of 1,3-dichloro-2-(dichloromethyl)benzene
1,3-dichloro-2-(dichloromethyl)benzene was prepared according to the procedure described for the preparation of 1-chloro-2-(dichloromethyl)benzene by chlorination with chlorine. Chlorination was carried out at the boiling point (200 °) by gaining the weight of the flask contents to 137 g and obtain a fluid with a specific gravity of 1.53 (20° C). Purification is performed by distillation and collected main fraction of 1,3-dichloro-2-(dichloromethyl)benzene, boiling in the range 133-145° C /12 mm Hg. Yield, about 360 g (80% of theory). The product is colorless liquid with a pungent odor that causes tearing; d20 = 1.5414.
